The Herrin Design Model 1644 Well System Pump Control is designed to provide a cost effective means of controlling water system reservoir levels. Through precise monitoring, the Well Control is able to reliably sense reservoir water levels by measuring water pressure at the well head. By monitoring reservoir levels at the well head, it is possible to mount the water system controls in one location, eliminating the costly communications link--leased lines or buried cables--between reservoir level sensors and the pumps. Typically, mechanical sensors at the reservoir deteriorate or are broken frequently due to weather; and communications lines are a large, continued expense.The Well Control tolerates temporary variations in water pressure due to surges and usage. The pump will not start until there is a constant low pressure level for 2-3 (variable) minutes (OFF TIME). This insures the pumps are activated only when necessary. Once the pump is turned on, it remains on for a preset period of time--up to 24 hours (ON TIME). During the pump cycle, the control does not rely on water pressure measurements to indicate if the reservoir is full. This feature eliminates sporadic pumping due to pressure variations created during the pumping cycle.

The GX3232 is a multi-channel 16-bit, analog input and output cPCI module, supporting 32 single-ended or 16 differential input channels and four analog output channels. The inputs can be software configured for differential or single-end operation and are sequentially scanned with a maximum aggregate scan rate of 300 kS/s. Three input ranges are software-selectable: ±10 V, ±5 V or ±2.5 V. Optionally, the GX3232 is available with a high voltage input configuration and supports three ranges: ±60 V, ±30 V and ±15 V. Each output can be clocked at rates up to 300 kS/s. A 16-bit digital I/O port is also provided, which supports 16 bidirectional data lines. Note that when used with a TS-700 system only 8 of these digital I/O lines are available at the test system's receiver interface.

The oscillator configuration allows design of either RC or crystal oscillator circuits. A RESET input is provided which resets the counter to the all 0's state and disables the oscillator. A high level on the RESET line accomplishes the reset function. All counter stages are master slave flip-flops. The state of the counter is advanced one step in binary order on the negative transition of 1 (and 0). All inputs and outputs are fully buffered. Schmitt trigger action on the clock pin permits unlimited clock rise and fall time.
